Google Nexus One : The Making

Google’s try to win the mobile market with the Android OS was a partial success but to remain realistic, the effort mostly failed. It’s even hard to compare the support and applications available on the iPhone  platform vs. Google’s Android platform even now after some time from Android OS release date.

Nexus One is the Google state of the art phone, incorporating the latest technologies in mobile communication and data access. Even tho’ I’m an iPhone user for some time now, I’m happy to see Google’s variation of the multitouch mobile OS get so nice and intuitive, and on a nice hardware. I would love to get my hand on one of these, and this is the first time I seriously want an Android OS phone.

Google made a video on youtube about the process of making this Nexus One phones, this is the first part of the small presentation More >

iPhone / iPod Touch Firmware 3.1.3

A new firmware is now available for the iPhone and iPod touch. The new update is all about bug fixes and security, as Apple states on it’s info page regarding this update.
The fixes include:

  • Playing a maliciously crafted mp4 audio file may lead to an unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution.
  • Viewing a maliciously crafted TIFF image may lead to an unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution; a person with physical access to a locked device may be able to access the user’s data.
  • Accessing a maliciously crafted FTP server could result in an unexpected application termination, information disclosure, or arbitrary code execution.
  • Mail may load remote audio and video content when remote image loading is disabled

The update is available to download now via iTunes on Mac or PC.

Apple iPad’s 3 minutes of fame [Video]

If you watched Apple’s keynote presented by Steve Jobs, i think you sense a little what I’m making fun of here, if not, it’s still damn funny to hear Steve Jobs and the developers at apple talk so nice and beautiful about a device that’s not even in the market, but hey, i already said i’ll get one of these iPad things. Enjoy the video… More >

More about Apple’s iPad

Yesterday was the release day for the iPad as i presented, so, after a day, it seams people divided in two big categories, the first one considers it “the iFail” and totally rejects the idea of buying this product in the near future, the second category users tend to think that the iPad is just the start of a new generation for mobile computing and Internet access, and it’s normal for the first device to be limited in features.
I don’t know about limitations and first generation, but the lack of Flash support is kind of a setback, remember the good days when the iPhone was released and it was strange for such a “futuristic” device to lack support for one of the most important technologies that had improved the Internet so much in the last years, Adobe said that it’s up to Apple, they are the ones responsible for blocking and limiting the web experience on the iPhone. Apple Tablet to have WiFi, 3G and 10″ display

There is one more day until Apple will reveal “the latest creation”, as the invitation to the event say. So, the rumors regarding this device are almost everywhere, some are possible, but other people like to dream a lot, i like it sometimes too but not regarding products 1 day away.

A trusted source, the New York Times, informed that “It will run all the applications of the iPhone and iPod Touch, have a persistent wireless connection over 3G cell phone networks and Wi-Fi, and will be built with a 10-inch color display, allowing newspapers, magazines and book publishers to deliver their products with an eye to the design that had grabbed readers in print.”

As i said above, the rumors and “possible picture leaks” are everywhere, but two pictures got the media’s attention, two competitors in the “best mock-up” or true pictures of the real device ? You decide. More >

The Wallpaper | 25 january 2010

I searched for some interesting images to use as wallpaper for long time now, it’s hard to find high quality/high definition images, and the ones available are almost all the time under copyright and unavailable to download.
I propose to post the wallpapers i found and use for my personal computers here, and i will start with this one:
“Grosverner Arch” by Philippe Clairo
December 13th, 2009
Located in South Utah, this geologic wonder is only accessible through a dirt road called Cottonwood Rd. I was alone when I took this photo, no other tourists around and it was very peaceful, with the sound of the wind and birds only.

Fix for problems with latest nVidia 196.21 drivers

nVidia just released the latest drivers for they’re video cards, the 196.21 version. But despite the waiting, i find this drivers problematic, and not only personal problems, but a simple Google search reveals all the issues people had installing (if installation was possible). I was not able to install them due to a problem with the physX installer that starts in -silent mode, after 2 days of searching on the web, i found the explication, that physX installer is separate from the main driver installer ,and runs in -silent mode with the main setup, but if the computer has a “strange” location setting (mine is set to Romania) the drivers fail to install, eventually failing the whole nVidia pack to install (you end up with no nVidia panel in Windows Control panel).
