iTunes updated, no more Palm Pre support
![]()
The question for some time is which one is better, is it the iPhone or Palm’s Pre. Well the answer depends on how you look at things and basically what you need the device for. If you just want a phone, i suggest you invest your money in other directions. Both devices are extremely pricey right now.
Apple’s way of connecting to a PC/Mac is iTunes, the multimedia player developed by Apple for the iPod and iPhone. Palm Pre does not have any software near the complexity of iTunes, so the guys at Palm did one small thing, they made the Pre to identify itself to iTunes exactly like an iPod (cloning the iPod USB device code).
The thing worked nice and fine, iTunes was capable of sync and media transfer, but the whole point of the post is that apple released an update to iTunes and all support for the Palm Pre has been disabled. The palm Pre users now have to find other ways and software to manipulate and arrange their media on a Pre.
Some say it’s not fair, but if you look at things from the general perspective, i think apple is just doing what they can to improve the experience and eliminate anything that stands in the way of the intended use for the software.
